Overview

The City of Vernon is proud to be a significant employer and to provide critical public safety services to the region, but Vernon is also committed to being a good neighbor, helping residents throughout our area thrive. 

Vernon’s efforts are part of the City’s promise to “do more” for the people who work in and live near the City. Helping to meet the important regional priorities benefits our businesses, and is simply the right thing to do.  

Among its other projects in 2008, Vernon sponsored two local pools, in Bell and Huntington Park, to ensure that hundreds of children can experience the joy of swimming at the pool. The City also sponsored two Community Science Days for over 1,200 elementary school students and their parents. And through a grant to the Southeast Cities Technology Collaborative, Vernon will provide a mobile computer lab for residents in nearby cities, helping to close the “digital divide” in our region, and truly transforming and improving the quality of life in Southeast Los Angeles County.
