City of Vernon City Council, Agency, Commission and Committee meetings are open to the public, and are held in the Council Chambers, 4305 S. Santa Fe Avenue, unless otherwise noticed. Notices and Agendas for said meetings are posted in accordance with Ralph M. Brown Act requirements. In accordance with Section 113 of the California Building Code, Section 89.108.8 of the California Electrical Code, Section 1101 of the Administrative Provisions for the Electrical Code, Section 110 of the California Mechanical Code and Section 1.8.8 of the California Plumbing Code an appeals board is to be established by the governing authority to decide any appeals of orders, decisions or determinations made by the building official relative to the application and interpretation of the building code. The board is appointed by the governing body, in this case the City Council, and shall hold office at its pleasure.

The Green Vernon Commission consists of the following per Ordinance No. 1188: Three (3) Business Representatives for Vernon's business Community (Including the President of the Vernon Chamber of Commerce or his/her Designee), two (2) labor representatives, and two (2) environmental representatives (one of which shall be from the environmental justice community). The Commission meets regularly quarterly (March, June, September, and December) on the third Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in the Vernon Council Chambers. Members of the City Council do not sit on the Green Vernon Commission. Each of the seven (7) appointed members of the Commission shall receive one hundred dollars ($100) per meeting, up to a maximum of two hundred dollars ($200) in any calendar month, as well as their actual and necessary expenses incurred in the discharge of their duties. (City of Vernon, Article XIX, Section 2.152). Meeting attendance is required to receive compensation. Members of the Green Vernon Commission are allowed to serve on more than one commission at the same time.

The Vernon Housing Commission consists of the following per Ordinance No. 1183: Member of the City Council, two (2) residents, (3) business representatives, and an employee of a business. The Commission meets regularly quarterly (March, June, September, and December) on the second Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in the Vernon Council Chambers. The member of the Vernon Housing Commission who also serves on the City Council shall not receive compensation for their attendance at Vernon Housing Commission meetings. All other Commission members shall receive one hundred dollars ($100) per meeting, up to a maximum of two hundred dollars ($200) in any calendar month, as well as their actual and necessary expenses incurred in the discharge of their duties. (City of Vernon, Article XIX, Section 2.129). Meeting attendance is required to receive compensation. Members of the Vernon Housing Commission are allowed to serve on more than one commission at the same time.

The Vernon CommUNITY Fund Grant Committee consists of the following per Ordinance No. 1218: Member of the City Council, two (2) Legislative Representatives, (3) Vernon Area Representatives, and a Business Representative. The Committee meets regularly quarterly (February, May, August, and November) on the third Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Vernon Council Chambers. A member of the Grant Committee who also serves on the City Council shall not receive compensation for his or her attendance at Grant Committee meetings. All other Grant Committee members shall receive one hundred dollars ($100) per meeting, up to a maximum of two hundred dollars ($200) in any calendar month, as well as their actual and necessary expenses incurred in the discharge of their duties. (City of Vernon, Article XX, Section 2.160(d)). Meeting attendance is required to receive compensation. Members of the Vernon CommUNITY Fund Grant Committee are allowed to serve on more than one commission/committee at the same time.

The Vernon Business and Industry Commission consists of the following per Ordinance Nos. 1223 and 1225: Three (3) individuals that represent the owner or operator of a business located in Vernon, two (2) individuals that have knowledge of the Vernon real estate market; one (1) individual who is employed by a business located in Vernon or who is a member of a labor union that represents workers at a business located in Vernon, and one (1) current member of the Vernon City Council. The Commission meets regularly quarterly (February, May, August, and November) on the second Thursday at 9:00 a.m. in the Vernon Council Chambers. Commission members shall receive one hundred dollars ($100) per meeting, up to a maximum of two hundred dollars ($200) in any calendar month, as well as their actual and necessary expenses incurred in the discharge of their duties. City Councilmember shall receive no compensation as a Commission member. (City of Vernon, Article XX, Section 2.182). Meeting attendance is required to receive compensation. Members of the Vernon Business and Industry Commission are allowed to serve on more than one commission at the same time.
