2007
Officer of the Year

Officer Eddie Hernandez was honored as the Officer of the Year
for 2007
The 2007 recipient of the Rotary Club's Police Officer of the Year
goes to Officer Eddie Hernandez. Throughout the course of the past
year, Officer Eddie Hernandez has accomplished several things that
distinguish him among his peers. He has demonstrated a strong commitment
to the Vernon Police Department and the community alike. He routinely
demonstrates a professional attitude and strong work ethic.
Eddie demonstrated maturity, initiative and the skills of an officer
beyond his years. His willingness to step up to help and mentor
other officers resulted in his selection as a Field Training Officer
in 2007.
According to Vernon Police Chief Steve Towles, "Officer Hernandez
has quietly distinguished himself as a consistent and reliable officer,
earning the respect and admiration of his peers, supervisors and
the community." Chief Towles mentioned that, "Officer
Hernandez puts forth a diligent effort each day and inspires a positive
attitude among his peers. He continually demonstrates integrity,
honesty, and excellence. Officer Hernandez is a highly effective
team member whose performance is always above and beyond what is
required, serving as an example for other officers."
Officer Hernandez is among the department leaders in all areas
of measured productivity. He performs best in the areas of self-initiated
work. For example, he made 30 DUI arrests which resulted in him
being awarded the MADD DUI award for 2007. He has also conducted
more than 760 patrol checks, subject checks, traffic stops, and
vehicle checks while making over 37 misdemeanor and felony arrests.
Officer Hernandez represents the best of what is expected of a Vernon
Police Officer and is recognized for his efforts and outstanding
service to the community. Eddie captures the spirit of community
service and commitment that is expected of all members of the Vernon
Police Department. He has developed a reputation as a kind and caring
person, who can be counted on when others need assistance or just
someone to talk to. Being a mentor and role model are very important
and respected attributes in our organization.
We are pleased to recognize and honor Officer Eddie Hernandez as
the Vernon Police Department's Police Officer of the Year for 2007.
