Patrol Division

The Vernon Police Department provides a full range of policing services to a very unique community comprised primarily of businesses and industry. The Vernon Police Department Patrol Division, with 3 lieutenants, 6 sergeants, 33 officers and Vernon Service Officers is the largest unit in the Vernon Police Department. The Patrol Division also utilizes a Bicycle Patrol Team and a D.A.R.E. Program for the local elementary school.

Patrol officers respond to all calls for service from the community. They are responsible for handling a wide variety of duties including responding to emergencies, investigating crimes and filing reports, checking out suspicious persons and vehicles, conducting traffic accident investigations and enforcing all traffic laws. Officers take a very pro-active approach to reducing the opportunity for crime and work closely with members of the business community to ensure a safe environment in which to conduct business. Our officers maintain a high level of visibility within the community and work to identify and eliminate those conditions or situations that may be attractive to the criminal element.

The Vernon Service Officers (VSOs) are an important part of the Patrol Division. These men and women handle a variety of non-emergent duties, allowing the patrol officer to remain available to respond to emergencies, dedicate more time to actively patrolling his or her assigned area or focus on a particular concern identified through our Community Oriented Policing efforts. VSOs receive extensive training allowing them to handles such duties as booking and transporting of prisoners, enforcement of parking regulations, filing minor reports, assisting with dispatch duties in the Communications Center, assisting with traffic control and providing assistance to the public as needed.
