Detective Bureau

The Vernon Police Department Detective Bureau consists of a Lieutenant, a Sergeant, four full time detectives, and three officers and one sergeant and one sergeant assigned to different task forces. The Lieutenant handles the administrative duties and manages the daily operations of the Detective Bureau.  The Sergeant is responsible for the daily supervision of the Detectives.  He must be familiar with the caseload of each detective and be available to assists and/or direct as necessary.  In addition, the Sergeant carries his own caseload; major crimes (homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, kidnapping), sex crimes (rape, sexual battery) and arson.

Each detective is assigned a specific desk and investigates those cases associated with that desk.  For example, one detective handles all of the thefts in the City while another handles all of the robberies.

An additional three officers and a supervisor are currently assigned to outside task forces or details. These officers, while employed by the City of Vernon, work with officers from various agencies to combat specific types of criminal activity.  These officers and the supervisor are currently assigned to “CTIP”, “LA IMPACT”, and “TRAP”.  CTIP investigates Cargo theft and other cargo related crimes, such as hijackings of trucks. LA IMPACT investigates the area’s drug problems such as distribution and suppliers. TRAP investigates auto thefts and chop shops. For further refer to the link provided for each detail.
