CITY OF VERNON HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL
The City of Vernon Health & Environmental Control Department’s mission is to preserve and enhance the quality of life in the City of Vernon by implementing comprehensive and efficient environmental and public health program services that protect the health and safety of Vernon’s residents, workers, and visitors; the neighboring communities; and the environment.

Activities include:
  • Monitoring businesses for compliance with local, state, and federal environmental health related laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations relating to food safety, water quality, hazardous materials management, and environmental protection.

  • Informing, educating, and empowering people in Vernon regarding good environmental health.

  • Enforcing laws and regulations that protect health, conserve the environment, and ensure safety.

  • Conducting outreach efforts to improve and maintain partnerships with other agencies (local, regional, state, and federal) and neighboring communities.

  • Evaluating effectiveness of services, and planning for future programs.

  • Providing support and environmental expertise to City Administration and other City departments.

  • Preparing for emergency and disaster operations.

  • Partnering with Vernon businesses, environmental consultants, and other City departments to arrive at reasonable solutions for environmental challenges.
