Excellence in Protection
"It is our purpose to protect lives, property, and the environment, by providing dedicated and skillful services."
Pushed to excellence by the nature of the community it protects, few places in the world have fire protection like the City of Vernon. Merely 5.2 square miles in size, Vernon (just 15 miles east of the Los Angeles International Airport) has it's own Class 1 Fire Department. All fire personnel receive the most advanced fire and rescue training and are provided with state-of the-art equipment and apparatus. Four Fire Stations ensure that emergency responders are ready to respond within every mile and a half of city property. This strategic location of stations has resulted in a response time of less than three minutes any time life or property is threatened.
Vernon Fire Department Awarded Class 1 Rating by Insurance Services Office
Vernon Fire Department has been awarded a Class 1 Public Protection Classification rating by the Insurance Services Office (ISO), an organization that independently evaluates municipal fire protection efforts in communities throughout the United States. The Class 1 rating is the highest possible score that can be given to any fire department nationwide. Vernon Fire Department is 1 of only 10 fire agencies in California, and a total of 57 nationally to have achieved this prestigious and significant ranking. Insurance companies use ISO information combined with other factors to establish local commercial business and residential property insurance rates – generally offering lower premiums in communities with better protection. Vernon business owners may contact their insurance provider to find out how they may benefit by Vernon Fire Department's Class 1 rating.
The ISO ratings process involves a periodic, detailed analysis of all fire department equipment and operations, the city's water system, and emergency 9-1-1 communications system. The program provides an objective nationwide standard that helps fire departments in planning and budgeting for facilities, equipment, and training. By offering economic benefits for communities that invest in their firefighting services, the program provides an incentive for improving and maintaining public fire protection.
The City of Vernon has 4 Fire Stations, strategically located throughout the City. Each station is staffed with full-time fire personnel working 3 shifts (A, B, & C) rotating every 48 hours. Specialized equipment is pre-positioned in each station to meet the needs of our industrial community. For more detail about each site, click on: Fire Station address, or (map) from the list below.
