The 2008 Study

The 2002 Study

The City of Vernon periodically commissions the Consulting Practice of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) to estimate the City of Vernon's impacts on the economy of the Los Angeles Basin.
Some of the key findings of the most recent study included that Vernon has a significant presence in several important industries: 15.3% of L.A. County's food industry employment; 10.7% of L.A. County's apparel related employment; 5.5% of L.A. County's furniture industry employment; and 3.4% of L.A. County's employment in the fabricated metal industries. The spending of Vernon's firms and its employees indirectly supports sales, and therefore jobs, at firms located elsewhere in the region. Similarly, construction contractors working on projects in Vernon purchase goods and services from throughout the region, supporting more indirect jobs. Further, the spending of Vernon's municipal government and City employees supports still more indirect jobs in Los Angeles County.
In the latest study, the LAEDC indicates that Vernon-based economic activity provides significant support to the regional economy: Total (direct and indirect) Full Time (equivalent) employment is 105,500 jobs. Annual direct and indirect wages and salaries are nearly $4.5 billion. Vernon precipitates roughly $1.1 billion in annual direct and indirect taxable spending.
