Water Division
The Vernon Water Department is responsible for providing quality water
at an economical price to its service area. The City continues to have
one of the lowest water rates in the area. Vernon's water system has
achieved a class I rating, the highest possible, by the insurance service
organization, receiving 37.21 out of a maximum of 40.0 points.
The Vernon water distribution system consists of 250,000 linear
feet of pipe, nine wells, seven ground level reservoirs, one elevated
tank and a below ground reservoir. The total storage capacity is
16 million gallons. In addition, Vernon has a direct interconnection
to the metropolitan water district. The MWD connection provides
both a supplemental water source and an emergency supply in the
event of a major power outage. The average pressure in the distribution
systems is about 75 psi.
Vernon services approximately 1075 customers with varying consumption
requirements. Approximately 10,503 acre-feet or 3.4 billion gallons
was distributed to Vernon consumers last year.
Vernon serves water to the majority of the City. A small portion of
the northeast corner of the City is served by California water service
and a small area in the southeast area of the City is served by Maywood
Mutual No. 3.
The water division employs 13 persons who are responsible for maintaining
the various components of the system, including wells, reservoirs and
pipelines along with constructing new water services.
