City of Vernon to launch mobile COVID-19 vaccination effort to
inoculate up to 11,000 workers throughout the city
Vernon, CA – The Vernon Health and Environmental Control Department has partnered
with Stacy Medical Center, a Vernon-based primary care provider, to offer on-site COVID-
19 vaccinations at Vernon businesses. The vaccination drive, now underway, seeks to
inoculate as many as 11,000 workers, including those working in high-density essential
workplaces, such as large-scale food processing facilities. In addition, Vernon Health staff
and Stacy Medical Center clinicians will manage and operate a temporary drive-up
COVID-19 vaccination location to serve Vernon residents and employees working at the
1,800 businesses within the city.
Vernon Health recently invested in a van outfitted with the required refrigeration capability
to serve as a mobile clinic to get vaccines into the arms of workers in high-density job
settings at businesses in Vernon as quickly and safely as possible. The mobile clinic will
continue to serve the Vernon community as a vehicle for public outreach long after
COVID-19 vaccinations have been administered to Vernon's workforce and residents.
The City, with support from its local legislators, is proud of its ability to execute this
ambitious concept. "Vaccine accessibility is a priority for the city. A large part of our daily
population is comprised of essential workers who live in or around the southeast area, a
group that is largely underserved and has been hardest hit by the pandemic," said Vernon
Mayor Leticia Lopez. "The mobile clinic is an innovative, effective way to reach those who
are in need of the vaccines and who otherwise would not have access."
Vernon City Administrator Carlos R. Fandino, Jr. said, "We are extremely grateful to L.A.
County Supervisor Hilda Solis and state Senator Lena A. Gonzalez for their combined
county and state efforts to assist our city's health department leadership and staff with
this critical COVID-19 vaccination program. Vernon is pleased that it can take part in
contributing to the safety and welfare of the community."
