The City of Vernon Hosts Spooktacular Halloween Festivities

Press Release

Vernon, Calif. (October 31, 2017) – The city of Vernon held its first annual "Spooktacular Halloween" event for the local community on Monday, October 30, 2017 in the City Hall courtyard.  This event continues the city's outreach efforts to engage Vernon's residents and provided an additional opportunity for residents and local community members to become familiar with services the City offers.

Over 70 families, including residents from Vernon's new Village Park Apartments attended Vernon's Spooktacular Halloween event. Attendees enjoyed food and refreshments, arts and crafts, trick-or-treating and other fun outdoor activities. All the children also enjoyed a candyland themed Halloween maze through the police department's facilities.

Vernon's City Council welcomed attendees to partake in the festivities while city staff provided information about various city services. Vernon was honored to welcome representatives from the Offices of Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard and Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis.

Vernon's Mayor Melissa Ybarra conveyed her enthusiasm. "It was thrilling to see over one hundred community members come together in Vernon to have fun and enjoy Halloween! The first Spooktacular Halloween was a great success and we're looking forward to next year!"

As part of the week's Halloween festivities, the city also hosted visits from Vernon City Elementary School, allowing students to walk through a variety of different Halloween mazes organized by different departments at City Hall.

Both events organized by the city are demonstrative of the city's unwaivering desire to connect with its residents and local community members in a meaningful way. "We will continue to host events such as these and seek opportunities to give back to our community," said City Administrator Carlos Fandino.

Photos of the events will be shared on Vernon's social media platforms which are additional channels the city has leveraged to ensure city related information is accessible to the community.
